Bolsver Castle & Apethorpe Church

Apethorpe Village Church (Mr. Bean lives in the village also) Mom and I tried to find the house but chickened out with all the "private road" signs. We were on his property though. I passed him one day in the village! Still driving a super small car, though not a mini cooper. :)

Dominating the countryside from its hilltop, Bolsover occupies the site of a medieval castle built by the Peverel family shortly after the Norman Conquest. This castle was unusual in as much as that it was built for elegant living, not defense. Many of the rooms have been retouched to show what the walls and doors would have looked like back then. It was a great place to explore and take the kids.

Across from the castle is the Riding House with its magnificant roof, perhaps

the finest surviving indoor riding school in Britain.
